The project En Mi Idioma was awarded in the category C8: Diversity and Cultural Identity, Linguistic Diversity and Local Content. The award was presented in the World Summit on the Information Society Forum 2013 In Geneve, in May this year. This award was presented to the Colombian Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies and to Colnodo, which together are implementing the project in Colombia.

The General Secretary of the International Telecommunication Unit ITU, Dr. Hamadoun Touré, announced the name of the 18 winning projects of the WSIS 2013.

These Prizes recognize excellence in the implementation of projects and initiatives which further the goals of the World Summit on the Information Society.

En mi idioma has already 118 lessons online posted by the communities themselves - 110 in indigenous languages and 8 in the Bantú language.

The initiative was initailly promoted in 2006 by Unesco which supported the development of 4 pilot projects with new ICTs in Colombia, Guatemala, Mexico and Peru.

Colnodo recognizes that this prize is a especial recognition to the tremendous effort made by the indigenous and Afrocolombian involved in using ICTs to plan their lessons and deliver them online in educational and ICT centers to their communities, in order to preserve their indigenous languages and to assure the coming generations will learn them.

Colnodo expects to reach through this project other indigenous and Afrocolombian in order to prevent the extinction of their languages, encourage the production of local content and to continue promoting the use of ICTs in their daily lives.
